He explains how his journey as “Chunda Munki” began in South Africa’s growing house-music movement. He never had formal exposure to dance music in his youth. The Bump CD’s were his only reference.
He preferred skating and motocross, which connected with rock, metal, and hip hop. In high school, he met a friend who owned hundreds of pirated house CDs. That moment reshaped everything.
One afternoon, he discovered Lady Lea’s Catch Me If You Can Vol.1. Track 11, the MYLO remix of Freeform Five – No More Conversations, changed everything. His parents drove him to Look & Listen that weekend so he could buy Lea’s album.
He collected music constantly and followed compilations like House Anthems, Soul Candi, and The Deeper Sounds series. He played tracks at house parties and slowly learned how to make music because it felt easier than learning a traditional instrument.
His early sound thrives in dark, groove-driven club spaces, and he continues to draw from those influences.
Back then, he played in small rooms with fewer than twenty people. Opening or closing floors let him experiment and read crowds.
Big festival audiences demand higher energy than 120bpm underground tracks. He balances moody roots with driving, fun, and energetic grooves.
His residencies – including a five-year run at Truth Nightclub – and festival performances teach him important lessons about connection.
He never fears chasing his dream. He feels blessed when thousands come to hear his music. Fans share emotional stories tied to his tracks. Those moments show that “none of us are really alone,” and music always offers love and connection.
