Strictly Vinyl, Seriously Visionary
Abby Nurock defines a story of culture, curiosity, and courage. A true vinyl evangelist and musical curator, Abby Nurock has earned her place as one of South Africa’s most respected selectors.

A Career Rooted in Vinyl Culture
From legendary venues like Fabric, Ultra Resistance, and Mixmag Lab to co-founding SAMP Records, Abby champions vinyl culture while preserving South African musical heritage. Her sound is intentional, shaped by early influences from her mother’s classical guitar to rare crate-dug white labels. Every performance is instinctive, heartfelt, and rooted in human connection.
Early Influences and Musical Journey
Abby’s journey began with discarded collections and white label gems. Learning on vinyl from scratch, she embraced its tactility, sound, and culture. Influenced by her parents’ eclectic tastes, she absorbed classical, jazz, acid house, and soulful grooves that still guide her artistry today.
Performances on Global Stages
Performing alongside icons like Bonobo, Black Coffee, and others, Abby has learned that energy matters more than ego. She values reading the room, trusting instinct, and making even one listener connect with the music. With courage, she takes risks, revives forgotten B-sides, and transforms obscurity into magic on the dancefloor.

The Vision of SAMP Records
Her co-founded label SAMP Records celebrates and preserves South African music. From reissuing Juluka’s Work For All on blue vinyl to international distribution, every project honours legacy while introducing it to new generations. The label reflects her dedication to vinyl culture and global recognition of local talent.

Evolving with Vinyl
Abby’s connection to vinyl remains deeply personal. From quirky synths to rare label pressings, her collection grows through exploration and discovery. For her, curation is storytelling, and risk is fuel for evolution. She continues to dig deeper, uncovering hidden gems and expanding her sonic palette.
A Fearless Tastemaker
As an artist, cultural archivist, and fearless tastemaker, Abby continues to shape South Africa’s music scene. She champions inclusion, creates space for women, queer artists, and underdogs, and pushes boundaries with courage. Her visionary voice ensures that vinyl culture thrives across generations.
