What began as a spontaneous opportunity during the COVID-19 lockdown became an exciting career for Misss Shelly. Today, Misss Shelly has built a strong reputation as a multigenre DJ.
She creates vibrant open-format sets that blend Hip Hop, R&B, Afrobeats, and more. Her performances have taken her to festivals, lifestyle events, and major brand activations.
Although audiences see a confident performer, Misss Shelly describes herself as shy and introverted. Music became her safe space and gave her a powerful platform for self-expression.

How Misss Shelly Found Her Sound

When a lockdown party needed a female DJ specialising in Hip Hop and R&B, he encouraged her to try. With his guidance, she learned the basics within four to five days.
She then played her first full set. What started as a once-off experience quickly became a passion that continues shaping her career.

One of her major milestones came through her debut at House of YMZ and Soundset Sunday. This opportunity opened the door to performing alongside SIR at the Once Upon a Time in JHB event.
Her passion for fashion has also influenced her career. She has performed at Glamour Magazine SA events and collaborated with Adidas, Sportscene, Foschini, and Nike.
These experiences have allowed her to connect music, fashion, and culture in exciting ways.
Creating Unforgettable Open-Format Sets
She describes her sound as fluid and adaptable. She reads the audience and creates a musical journey around the energy in the room.
Her sets can evoke love, nostalgia, confidence, and excitement. She wants every audience member to feel included while experiencing something fresh.
As a result, she continues learning, experimenting, and evolving as an artist.
Balancing Music, Business and Life
Alongside DJing, Misss Shelly has built her own entrepreneurial ventures. Balancing both worlds can become demanding, but she has learned the importance of prioritising her wellbeing.
She believes in knowing when to step back, recharge, and return stronger. Her approach keeps her grounded while allowing her to pursue the ventures she genuinely loves.
“You can always try again tomorrow, even if you fail, but you can’t replace your wellbeing.”
